irgin Oriental is on Virgin Gorda, the third largest of the British Virgin Islands, with a resident population of only 2,500 people. It is a tranquil, unspoiled island that has a year round temperature in the 80's.

There are fabulous, boulder strewn, white sand beaches, national parks for walking, water sports, sail or motorboats for charter, deep sea fishing, excellent scuba diving, opportunities to windsurf, or water ski.

Virgin Oriental Villa is walking distance from Spring Bay Beach

But, perhaps just as important are the things Virgin Gorda does not have: no high rises, no neon signs, no traffic lights, no casinos, no golf, no movie theaters. Just several excellent restaurants and informal night spots featuring local bands and performers.

Virgin Oriental comes with daily maid service. If you want a cook or babysitter, we can arrange it. Car rentals ditto.

Virgin Gorda is easy to reach. There are many direct flights from major U.S. and European cities to San Juan or St. Thomas. From there, frequent daily flights will take you to Virgin Gorda. You can also reach Virgin Gorda by ferry from St. Thomas or Tortola.

Keep in mind that Virgin Gorda is British, so bring a passport or birth certificate. The U.S. dollar is the local currency. Be prepared to drive on the left and to enjoy Virgin Oriental.

About Us

Harold and Jean Barel first visited Virgin Gorda on the Honeymoon in 1989. Walking to the Yacht Harbor from our Guavaberry cottage, we were twice offered a ride and twice invited to a barbeque on the beach -- within hours of our arrival!  Were we on to something special? We so enjoyed the island and met so many wonderful people on that first trip that we bought a lot that same week!

In 1991 we completed the main part of the house. Living in the Far East at the time, most of the original furniture was shipped directly from the Orient, and the name Virgin Oriental adopted.  The downstairs bedroom suite and pool were added in 2000.

We now reside with our two young children near Chicago. Our love of the Orient and our love affair with Virgin Gorda is as strong as ever. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
